This probably can be attributed to various reasons. For instance, women nowadays do not get married as early as they used to in the past, they also take a longer period of time in advancing their education and bear fewer children. At the workplace, women are faced by many challenges that are not faced by their male counterparts. This is partially due to the fact that men and women do not specialize in the same jobs. They usually have different types of jobs. Generally, there are work related cases that are associated with women. Some of them include respiratory diseases, carpal tunnel syndrome, stress disorders, infectious diseases caused by parasites and anxiety. In addition, women are exposed to risks of illness and injuries at the workplace as a result of social, cultural and economic factors. They experience problems due to the immigrant status they carry and also issues as they try to balance family life and work. They work in places that expose them to a higher rate of injuries as compared to their native counterparts. Blood donation centers continuously request the general population to donate. Specific populations are expected to participate in community activities more, due to the nature of their work. One such group are the volunteer firefighters of Erie County, New York. These are the men and women who rescue victims of accidents and disasters daily. The purpose of this assessment, done in conjunction with the American Red Cross, is to determine whether and why volunteer firefighters participate in blood donation. The scope of this assessment will include a description of the Erie County volunteer firefighter population, the community structures of the Erie County, and other various aspects of the community as well. It will include health risks and stressors relative to firefighting. The identification of volunteer firefighter needs and recommendations to remedy these needs along with conclusions drawn from the research will be provided. An analysis of the data collected will be provided. Background Information on Affiliating Agency The affiliating agency used for this assessment was the American Red Cross. The American Red Cross began in 1881 as an offshoot of the European Red Cross by Clara Barton in Dansville, NY. Its purpose is to ââ¬Å"provide emergency aid during civil disasters such as floods and earthquakes, offer humanitarian services for armed forces personnel and their families, and operate centers for the collecting and processing blood and blood products.â⬠(Davis, 1993, p. 79) The name of the local chapter in Erie County is the Greater Buffalo Chapter (see Appendix A). A close evaluation of the Character and actions of Lady Macbeth Essay
This is an evaluation of Lady Macbeth, in this I aim to cover some points about her character and actions throughout her existing part in the literature. Firstly we can see that she has big plans for Macbeth to kill Duncan in order for him to become king of Scotland, the way she tries to tempt him is also interesting, with such a lines as ââ¬Å"look like thââ¬â¢ innocent flower, but serpent underââ¬â¢tâ⬠Which is basically saying that he must act all innocent but is actually going to kill Duncan, this shows how she is cunning, and plotting treason for her husband and herself. Then we come to her encouraging him to kill Duncan, she does this by attacking his manhood, by claiming he is a coward this can be seen in a quote such as ââ¬Å"and live a coward in thine own esteem, letting ââ¬ËI dare notââ¬â¢ wait upon ââ¬ËI wouldââ¬â¢ like the poor cat iââ¬â¢ thââ¬â¢ adage?â⬠This is just Lady Macbeth telling Macbeth that he is a coward and is afraid of his own self, which Macbeth is quite enraged about and decides to follow through with the plan and kill Duncan. Lady Macbeth then takes it upon her self to apply pressure on Macbeth to kill Duncan. This can be seen by her use of persuasive language to convince him that everything will go according to plan. â⬠What not put upon his spongy officers, who shall bear the guilt of our great quell?â⬠This is Lady Macbeth reassuring Macbeth at the fact that they can frame, quite easily, the chamberlains of Duncan. This is showââ¬â¢s her unquenchable thirst for Macbeth to become king is emerging strongly. She then helps to plan their reaction the morning after the brutal elimination of Duncan and how they can pass the blame onto the guards. The quote ââ¬Å"Who dares receive it other, as we shall make our griefs and clamour roar upon his death?â⬠These words are Lady Macbeth saying, ââ¬Å"Who would dare to think otherwise about the guards killing Duncan, when we make it look as if we had no idea about it and act so shocked on the discovery of his body that we make a big fuss about it ?â⬠However, all of the above may seem like she is in control, but she doesnââ¬â¢t actually carry out the murder, this could be for a few reasons, these are: If the murder went wrong it would be Macbeth how would be directly guilty and so leave her in the clear, she could have also been scared to do it for the simple fact that she wouldnââ¬â¢t be able to (mentally). She may not want to get involved because if Macbethââ¬â¢s mental state and grip on reality slipped, then she would go down with him if she got involved so she would have to keep a strong head for both of them. These reasons can reflect many of her personalities such as being quite selfish and letting Macbeth get caught for the murder if it went wrong, but it also shows that she knows if she does it that she may start losing her grip upon reality, this makes it clear that she has awareness of her capabilities in respects to murder. After the murder of Duncan, Macduff discovers that Duncan is dead and has been murdered, Macbeth responds to this in a manner of rage and shock and then proceeds to slay the two chamberlains that Macbeth covered in Duncanââ¬â¢s blood and their daggers after the murder. He does this perhaps out of rage or possibly for cover to hide his conspiracy with is wife, perhaps to make her pleased that he can think on the spot. This however leads to Lady Macbeth fainting, whether this is due to the fact that she is also covering up her involvement with the murder, or sheer shock from hearing that Macbeth has killed the two chamberlains. Either way it means she is already trying to wash her hands from the murder. But it does appear to work, as they are concerned for her health rather than her participation to the murder. Also just before Macduff may have the chance to question her she cries for help, this once again shows of her quick thinking and cover of her part in the murder. In conclusion Lady Macbeth is one of the most controversial characters. She can be viewed, as a woman of strong will who is ambitious for herself and who is perceptive enough to recognise her husbandââ¬â¢s strengths and weaknesses, and callous enough to exploit them. We see her in her commitment to evil and in her realisation that the acquirement of the Kingship of her husband has not brought her the happiness she had aspired for, and finally, as one who breaks down under the anxiety of the murder. Others see her as a woman ambitious for her husband whom she loves. She recognises the essential good in him, and feels that, without her, he will never win the Crown. She allies herself with the powers of darkness for his sake, but her congenital femininity breaks down under the strain of the unnatural murder of Duncan and the alienation of her husband. She is seen as simple and realistic where Macbeth is complicated and imaginative. She can see what must be done as he visualises the consequence.

The Civil War was the bloodiest and most violent war in all of Americas history. Not only did it pit brother against brother and father against son, but it also caused more deaths than all of Americas wars before or since combined. The cause for the Civil War was not a single event; instead it was a combination of several. In general, the South felt overpowered by the North socially, economically, and culturally. The two sidesââ¬â¢ ways of life were completely different in every aspect of the word. At the heart of all the issues lay one major cause for dissension which is known as slavery. Frankly, the combinations of events that led to the civil war drove people over the edge, had varying degrees of influence, and tended to have slavery asâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦The Dred Scott Decision became the next problem that led to the Civil war. Dred Scott was a black slave that lived for 5 years in Illinois with his master. He sued for his freedom based on his prolonged stay on fre e soil. The Supreme Court heard the case and ruled that since Dred Scott was a black slave and was equated to property. Therefore, he was not a citizen and not allowed to sue. The Court took the ruling further saying that since a slave was property; they could be taken into any territory and be held there under the laws of slavery. The ruling was based on the Fifth Amendment which denied Congress the right to strip people of their property without due process of law. Southerners were pleased with the victory in the case, but abolitionists were horrified at the idea that slavery could legally spread anywhere in the country. The fear of this continued to grow in the North and caused much more friction between the North and South as a result. On top of other issues leading up to the war lay the Kansas-Nebraska Act. When the territory of Nebraska was proposed to enter the Union, more squabbling between the supporters of the North and South ensued. Stephen Douglas proposed that if they split the territory into two states, Kansas and Nebraska, and allowed popular sovereignty to work its magic, then everything would be fine.
